Sword Scabbard

The scabbard of the South Downs sword of state had seen a lot of years and the leather was not in good shape anymore, so I decided it was time to give it an upgrade. I made the new scabbard from poplar, cutting three slices from a single board and cutting the space for the sword out of the center piece. I added leather to the inside for grip and then glued the layers together. The final shape was cut out with a bandsaw and rounded with a router. I painted it with black and blue latex paint, decorated with white craft paint and sealed with Polycrylic. The motto reads “turris ab manibus multis fabricatur” (“the tower is built by many hands”). The throat and chape were made from scrap stainless and glued and nailed in place.
