Brass Writing Pens

In late 2019 I ran across a blog post by Ian the Green with some good examples of brass pens from various time periods ranging from the Roman era through to the 16th century. Excited to find a writing implement with the historical street cred of a quill and the reliability of a modern steel nib, I took what I had learned from making brass aglets and whipped up a few. They have some of the same flow issues that feather quills do, compared to a modern nib with a reservoir. They are not as flexible as a quill, but also don’t degrade over time. I found that a larger diameter was easier for me to use.
