This was based on a page from the Grandes Chroniques de France (1375-1380). The painted area is 7.5″ x 10″ on a 11″ x 14″ sheet of Pergamenata.The design was inked with a technical pen, and the painting was done with some inexpensive (but surprisingly nice) gouache that I picked up at the last minute. The gilding is 23k gold leaf laid on homemade gesso (hide glue, honey, armenian bole, slaked plaster). Alessandra did the calligraphy and gilding. The grisaille parts of the miniatures were painted with heavily diluted black ink in several washes.
