Hand sewn bodice

Layers of the interlining
Dark green wool felt, grey linen / cotton blend, and additional layer of the wool for padding and stiffening under the bust.

All three interlining layers stacked and basted starting from the center front going vertically, then horizontally. The straps are also basted through their centers. This is done very loosely, just enough to keep the layers from wiggling apart when the pad stitching begins.

1520’s Florentine dress

I’m working up a class on hand sewn bodice techniques and in the process making myself a new dress. The Inspiration picture for the dress is Francesco Ubertini: the Preaching of St. John the Baptist. 1520.

The class will not be about how to draft a bodice pattern, but rather how to assemble one by hand. These methods are applicable to many different types of bodices in the 15th and 16th centuries.

Psalm 33 Part 1

I have just started a new illuminated verse that will be a thank you gift for a dear friend.   And for once, I am going to make scans as I go of the process.   As of last night layout and calligraphy have been finished, but I still need to put the layout down on the final piece.  I don’t see the point in  doing that when the calligraphy isn’t finished yet since I cannot easily fix mistakes on Bristol Board.  So here it is!   I am not sure yet if the end of the line fillers will be solid gold or have designs in them yet.

Hello World

First, I would like to thank Master Lorenzo and Mistress Adella for welcoming me here.

While I am new to this blog, I have been doing crafting of various sorts for many years and have been attempting to compile all of my projects here…. with pictures.

My recent update is now a (mostly) complete record of the illuminations I have done, listed under the “Scribal Arts” heading.
