Getting Started with Research

This past Saturday, I taught a class on the beginning steps for SCA research at virtual Black Gryphon. It was fairly well attended and seemed (as far as I could tell) to be helpful. Since I teach Research Methods in my modern life it wasn’t too much of a stretch to apply to SCA research, but I was still a bit nervous about it. While the class itself was not recorded, I have made my handout available at this link.

The class (and therefore the handout) covers how to come up with a topic of reasonable scope, how to find relevant sources, and how to evaluate the quality of those sources. I included a variety of examples drawn from my own experiences with research and those of people I know, as well as the types of questions I have found useful to try and answer during the research process.
