This was my first attempt ever at sizing up a pattern. It turned out really well and gave me more confidence in my abilities. I made it in August and September of 2007 to wear to Meridian Grand Tourney. This is the pattern from the Tudor Tailor of the English fitted gown and kirtle. Astute observers will notice that I made it in the exact color scheme from the book, this probably makes me a bit lame and unoriginal, but I loved the colors so much!
The fitted gown is made of the cheap faux suede from Joann’s. I don’t really know what it is called and definitely don’t want to know what it is made of. I lined it with cotton and it looks pretty good.
You can’t really see it in the picture, but the sleeves are paned on the outside and boned on the interior. They were a pain to make and I probably said some words I shouldn’t have during their construction. I’m really proud of the way they turned out in the end.
The sleeves are wool lined with the blue fabric of the gown. They have slashes in them, but you can’t see it unless you are much closer. Sadly the sleeves are extremely warm, and I can’t wear them most of the time in Georgia. I usually only wear them to court.
