An Illuminated Gift

This is an illumination I made for my husband’s grandmother in December of 2008. It is taken from the Turin-Milan Hours from the 15th century. The illumination and the bottom scene are from two different pages in the work. I also replaced the latin text with Ruth’s favorite Bible passage.

The full illuminated page. The birds were also added from a different illumination. The original had angels that had weird little tutus and no legs.

Closeup of the main picture. I was really happy how the wings turned out. I like the peacock feathers. I also really like Gabriel's face. It looks like he's saying "Now, I'm only going to tell you this one time..."

A bit more border. My husband says it looks like Mary is in a phone booth.

Bottom of the Manuscript. I really want to learn how to do gilding to really bling it up.
