This scroll is based on a 1571 Crown grant of incorporation for a grammar school in Dedham, England. The border of the original is not specific to the content of the document, but I replaced the portrait and heraldic features to match the award and recipient. As is common with such legal documents, all blank space on lines is filled in and the bottom edge is folded up to the last line of text and sealed. The outside of the folded up section is not visible on the original, but it is not uncommon for signatures to be placed there next to the seal cords. The seals are attached with a diamond pattern matching the one used in the exemplar.
